A bit of history...
This prestigious property is a place steeped in history.
Nicknamed "La Pointe Papineau" by locals, it was acquired in the 1920s by the Papineau family, descendants of the renowned Canadian patriot Louis-Joseph Papineau, seigneur of La Petite-Nation. In the early 1930s, the Papineau family built a log cottage here as a secondary residence, inspired by the style of the famous Château Montebello, itself built on Papineau family land.
In the 1940s, the Papineau family sold the property to Montreal businessman Roger Maillet, whose descendants are still the current owners. In the 1950s, Roger Maillet gifted the property to his eldest daughter, writer Andrée Maillet, who wrote several of her works there. Many artists and writers visited the property over the years, including her friend Gaston Miron, considered Quebec's national poet.
Ms. Maillet loved staying at Lac-des-Plages to write. Her novel Le bois pourri was deeply inspired by the natural surroundings of the property. From that novel, she adapted the screenplay for the televised play La perdrière, which aired on the show Les Beaux Dimanches on Radio-Canada, and featured singer Claude Léveillée and actress Louise Marleau.
The property has remained in the family to this day. While the original buildings no longer exist, the enchanting setting--deeply rooted in Quebec and Canadian history--still does.
